ARCHAEOASTRONOMY IN THE ROCK OF CERERE AT ENNA (SICILY)
Presentation at the International Congress «The Mediterranean and Megalithism in the III-II millennia BC».
Abstract
The isolated and elevated conformation of the Rocca di Cerere at Enna makes it an ideal place of worship, high up and close to the divinity.
Nothing il left of the ancient temple of Ceres described by Cicero.
The natural rock was worked by man into steps and seats.
For this reason we thought that the Rock was already a sacred site in prehistoric times, and that it could be astronomically oriented.
FIRST multidisciplinary and geo-archaeological DAYS OF STUDIES – on MEDITERRANEAN MEGALITHISM, year 2023
In recent years, archaeological studies and reports by independent scholars in Sicily focused on some previously unpublished architectural megalithic structures.
The Sacred Landscapes, the funerary structures, the dolmens and/or dolmen hypogea, the archaeo-astronomical areas, the megaliths and/or cyclopean monuments seem to be almost unknown realities in parts of the "megalithic landscape».
The Conference was created to give new scientific impetus to the subject, studying Sicilian and Mediterranean cyclopean/megalithic structures with a multidisciplinary and geo-archaeological approach. This is part of a new cultural/cultural vision of the Prehistory and Protohistory of the Mediterranean.
A cultural common thread which united various sites in the Mediterranean countries, from Prehistory to the Iron Age
