Presentation of the book: «Mausoleo di Adriano. Architettura e luce» by Marina De Franceschini, Giuseppe Veneziano
Marina De Franceschini will present her last book on the
discovery of archaeoastronomy in the Mausoleum of Hadrian, the current Castel Sant'Angelo, written in cooperation with Giuseppe Veneziano.
The book traces the two-thousand-year history of the building, which is closely intertwined with that of Rome.
Starting with its construction together with the Aelius bridge in 130 AD, until its abandonment and spoliation during the barbarian invasions.
From its transformation into a fortress during the Middle Ages and then into a luxurious papal residence in the Renaissance.
Until it became a prison and finally a Museum.
Thanks to archaeoastronomy and the discovery of particular illuminations (hierophanies) in the Burial hall, the book proposes a new and unprecedented reconstruction of the Mausoleum and
discovers the hidden symbolic meaning of its architecture.
